What Do Hemorrhoids Look Like

What Do Hemorrhoids Look Like? Hemorrhoids are masses of tissue that contain blood vessels. Hemorrhoids are very common, especially in the 45 to 65 age range. In fact, hemorrhoids are present in everyone, the problem occurs when the hemrrhoidal cushions enlarge. When these cushions become enflamed, problems arise and this is when they are considered a disease. In general, 4% of the general poplulation have problems with hemorrhoids.

What Causes Hemorrhoids
There is no scientific cause for what exactly causes hemorrhoids. There are however some prevalent theories as to what causes them to enlarge. The common consensus on what causes hemorrhoids is straining during bowel movements, or an overall elevation in pressure in the sphincter. Pregnancy is a common cause of enlarged hemorrhoids. This is probably as a result of straining as well. Another theory deals with the pulling force of passing a stool. This can be more problematic with inadequate fiber levels. This is the reason why people with hemorrhoid problems commonly have high fiber diets.

Diagnoses
What Do Hemorrhoids Look Like? News Bulletin: Doctors know what hemorrhoids look like. If you are suspicious that you have hemorrhoids, it is probably time to see a doctor. Normally just a visual inspection on the affected area will tell if you have external hemorrhoids or a prolapsed hemorrhoid. These types of hemorrhoids are easy to see without any "invasion" of that area. However, if you have internal hemorrhoids or something of that sort, a full exam will be necessary. Sometimes one is sedated for these exams because of the intense pain, but if it is just internal hemorrhoids, pain is not normally present. During this exam, other problems such as tumors, polyps, an enlarged prostate, or abscesses can be found. To have visual confirmation of internal hemorrhoids, an anoscopy or proctoscopy will be required. The instrument is basically just a hollow tube with a light at one end that allows the doctor to see internal hemorrhoids or other growths in the area.
